Bride Final.jpg

Bride 2020 oil on canvas 16x20 in.

Bride is a nude self portrait I made for my benefactor who I worked with at UNIQLO. I am holding loosely rendered chrysanthemums and hydrangeas and looking extremely fertile. I thought it fit Lost in Translation nicely as the depth of cultural symbolism in the flowers and the body are all lost as luxurious props. Cúc, or chrysanthemum in vietnamese, lives many different lives as representative of the new year, good times, happiness, love, death, and apparently the asshole according to Chỉ Bàn Lộn: Từ điển queer và tính dục.
