Red Pocket Magazine is an international magazine for youth of the Asian diaspora that seeks to publish writing and art from high school students and students from ages 13 to 30 inclusive. We encourage writers and artists to learn something new about their culture and incorporate it into their writing and art through subtle allusions and allegories.
Red Pocket Magazine is no ordinary literary magazine. Red Pocket Magazine is based on five key pillars, developed by Dynasty 1 (Red Pocket Magazine’s first team)
Culture: To embolden the voices of the global Asian diasporic youth so they may reflect on, grapple with, and champion their ethnic, cultural, and racial heritages through expressive mediums and new perspectives.
Autonomy: To curate and organize a platform to showcase and faithfully archive Asian voices - to create visibility amongst themselves, their community, and beyond, and restore authentic representation by placing the narrative of Asian diasporic youth into their own hands.
Creativity: To encourage Asian youth to pursue writing and artistry in a community where such fields are overlooked.
Diversity: To create a safe haven that showcases diasporic youth of all Asian descent. Red Pocket shall be a place of inclusion, of art, and of openness. All stories, no matter how controversial, are worthy of being told, and will be told here.
Empowerment: To challenge and “pocket” the stereotypes that others paint us with. We are more than the “model minority;” we are a mosaic of peoples, composed of thinkers, dreamers, writers, artists, and the champions of our own vibrant futures.
We promote our writers and artists on our platforms, and we work with our writers to improve their work as much as possible before publication.
As Red Pocket Magazine searched for its identity as an organization, one quote clearly encompassed its values. Culture is within, not confined to a specific geographic location.
